Strong Interest Continues for New DHS Girls Flag Football Team; Busy July Includes Trip to…

Danville High School’s new girls flag football team is off to a promising start, according to District 118 Athletic Director Mark Bacys. With informal summer workouts underway, approximately 35 girls are actively participating, and this number is expected to grow to 50-60 once fall sports practice officially kicks off. Bacys is impressed by the enthusiasm and dedication shown by the participants, many of whom are trying flag football, and in some cases, any sport, for the first time. The overall attitude and progress within the program have been notably positive.

Looking ahead, on July 12th, the team is scheduled to attend an officials clinic in Bloomington. This event not only provides an opportunity for the players to enhance their understanding of the game but also allows officials who are new to flag football to gain valuable experience and knowledge.

In another exciting development, on July 23rd, the team will visit the Chicago Bears Training Camp. The Bears recently supplied flag football uniforms for Danville High School and several other teams across the state. During their visit, the players will have the chance to observe a Bears practice session and further refine their skills.

The highlight of the upcoming season is set to be the inaugural game for the DHS Girls Flag Football team on Thursday, August 29th, which will take place on the new DHS field. The following night, on Friday, August 30th, the boys’ team will play their first home game of the season, marking an exciting start to the school’s flag football program.

The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) is actively working to recruit more officials for flag football. To support this initiative, an officials clinic will be held in Bloomington on July 12th. Danville High School and Peoria have been specifically invited to participate in this event, highlighting the importance of developing officiating skills within the sport.

The continuous growth and opportunities for the girls flag football team at Danville High School are indicative of the commitment to fostering a strong athletic program within the district. As the players gear up for their upcoming events and games, the support and enthusiasm surrounding the program bode well for a successful season ahead.
