Historic MLB Artifacts Showcased at All-Star Game Featuring Potential $30M Jersey

The upcoming Major League Baseball All-Star Game is not only a showcase of the game’s top talent but also a display of some of the most iconic artifacts in baseball history. Among these treasures is a gray New York Yankees jersey that holds immense historical significance, as it is believed to have been worn by none other than the legendary Babe Ruth during his famous “called shot” home run.

This prized jersey, which is said to have been worn by Ruth during Game 3 of the 1932 World Series, will be prominently featured just outside Globe Life Field, the venue for this year’s All-Star Game. Fans will have the unique opportunity to view this piece of baseball history up close as part of a special display at the Texas Live! Revolver Brewhouse.

The jersey is scheduled to be included in Heritage Auctions’ upcoming Summer Platinum Sports Auction on August 23-25, where it is anticipated to fetch an impressive sum, potentially reaching up to $30 million. This valuation reflects the immense value placed on rare and iconic pieces of baseball memorabilia, particularly those associated with legendary figures like Babe Ruth.

One of the key factors contributing to the high valuation of the Ruth jersey is its authentication by a reputable third-party photo-matching service. By comparing the jersey to images of Ruth wearing it during the 1932 World Series, experts were able to confirm its authenticity, adding to its allure for collectors and enthusiasts alike.

According to Joe Orlando, Heritage’s executive vice president of sports, vintage baseball uniforms like Ruth’s jersey offer unique insights into the game’s past, showcasing the craftsmanship and individuality of each piece from that era. The distinct characteristics of these handmade jerseys, such as button alignment and lettering placement, further authenticate the Ruth jersey’s connection to its storied past.

In addition to the Ruth jersey, Heritage will also showcase other notable items at Texas Live!, including a 1911 “Shoeless Joe” Jackson game-used rookie bat, a 1951 Jackie Robinson Brooklyn Dodgers jersey, Shohei Ohtani’s milestone home run baseball, and a 1921 game-used and signed Ruth bat, among others.

Meanwhile, Hunt Auction will host a live auction featuring a range of unique baseball memorabilia, including a gold pendant presented to Lou Gehrig at the inaugural All-Star Game in 1933. With items like autographed baseballs from Presidents John F. Kennedy and Dwight D. Eisenhower, a Jimmie Foxx signed baseball, and a Gehrig signed photograph, the auction promises to attract collectors and baseball enthusiasts eager to own a piece of the sport’s rich history.
