Washington Commanders Bring Back Gold Pants to Uniform Rotation

The Washington Commanders have made a significant announcement regarding their uniform rotation for the upcoming season. They revealed that they will be reintroducing gold pants, a choice that has not been available since the team underwent a rebranding in 2022.

The franchise has a longstanding connection to gold pants, tracing back to 1937 when the Boston Redskins relocated to Washington D.C. The team donned gold pants during their NFL championship victories in 1937 and 1942, as well as their appearance in Super Bowl VII.

In 1979, Washington shifted away from gold pants, opting for white or burgundy alternatives. However, the gold pants resurfaced in 1994 as part of the NFL’s 75th season celebrations, where the team sported a throwback design from 1937 in three games.

Throughout the 2002-03 and 2007 seasons, gold pants made sporadic appearances in throwback games before becoming a regular feature in 2010. The last time they were worn was during a 24-0 defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles to conclude the 2018 season.

Following the retirement of their controversial nickname, the team played two seasons as the Washington Football Team before rebranding to the Commanders in 2022. The Commanders unveiled new uniforms in 2022, offering the choice of burgundy, white, or black pants.

The Commanders have not specified the games in which they will showcase the gold pants or whether they will be paired with their white road or black alternate jerseys. However, they have indicated that the uniform schedule will be disclosed at a later date.

This move to reintroduce gold pants adds a nostalgic touch to the Commanders’ uniform rotation and pays homage to the team’s rich history. Fans eagerly anticipate seeing the iconic gold pants back in action on the field, adding a classic flair to the team’s modern identity.
