New York Jets Facing Major Lawsuit Over Legal Dispute
Earlier this year, the New York Jets unveiled a fresh set of uniforms that featured a retro logo initially crafted by former staff member Jim Pons. Now, Pons is pursuing compensation for his creative contribution.
As per a report from TMZ Sports, Jim Pons has taken legal action against the New York Jets, asserting his right to be remunerated for the usage of his design. In the lawsuit, Pons expresses dissatisfaction with the Jets and the NFL, claiming ownership of the mark that he developed independently of his employment with the team. Consequently, he believes he is entitled to substantial compensation for his intellectual property.
The report from TMZ Sports states, “Pons alleges that the team and the league are profiting significantly from his creation, and he is adamant about receiving his fair share.” The 81-year-old is seeking unspecified damages through legal action. Additionally, he is requesting the nullification of the Jets’ trademark of his logo. Pons also aims to secure a court order preventing the team from utilizing his design on their uniforms and merchandise without his explicit consent and appropriate compensation.
The outcome of Pons’ lawsuit against the team remains uncertain, leaving the resolution of this legal dispute hanging in the balance.
