NGO Urges Government to Back Education for Needy Orphans

A plea has been made by the Child Education And Child Support Initiative (CEACSI), a non-profit organization, to the Federal Government to extend support to underprivileged orphans. The founder of CEACSI, Mrs. Maryam Bala Shehu, voiced this request during a gathering organized by the organization for 80 orphaned and economically disadvantaged children who are currently benefiting from its scholarships and care.

The event took place on Saturday, June 29, at the LEA Primary School in Utako, AbujaFCT. Bala Shehu highlighted that CEACSI has been actively operating for 15 years. During this time, they have identified orphans and underprivileged children to whom they cover school fees, provide new uniforms and school shoes, as well as offer school bags and stationery. Bala Shehu proudly shared that the first child supported by CEACSI is set to graduate from university in 2025, with others excelling in their academic pursuits.

Despite the organization’s successes, it has encountered challenges such as the unfortunate occurrences of some children entering early marriages or having their guardians relocate, resulting in disruptions to their education. Bala Shehu emphasized the transformative power of education, stating, “I believe education is a leveller as it allows non-privileged children to compete in the same arena as privileged ones. It is a pathway out of poverty. Education not only makes children better citizens, it also draws out creativity and innovative tendencies in them.”

CEACSI’s dedication to providing educational opportunities for vulnerable children underscores the crucial role that education plays in breaking the cycle of poverty and empowering individuals to reach their full potential. The organization’s commitment to supporting these children not only ensures access to education but also fosters a sense of hope and possibility for a brighter future.

In a society where access to quality education remains a challenge for many disadvantaged children, initiatives like CEACSI serve as beacons of hope, demonstrating the impact that targeted support can have on transforming lives and shaping a more inclusive and equitable society. The call for government support echoes the importance of collective efforts in ensuring that every child, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to receive a quality education and realize their aspirations.
